This event is completely run by volunteers. This is a great way to get volunteer service hours for school graduation requirements. We hope you’ll join us too!
If this sounds like your kind of thing, please fill out this form (or have a parent/legal guardian do so). AVFD Station 7 Terror Trail Waiver
Build and Set Design
Activities include decorating scenes, lugging props, and other manual unskilled labor. It’s hot, sweaty work, but the community absolutely loves the results.
Scare-Acting Opportunities
Our volunteers have the opportunity to become scare actors. We provide costumes, makeup and/or masks, and tips on how to scare optimally.
Pre-Event Prep
There are limited slots available for things like applying makeup to other scare actors, trail maintenance, and other tasks as assigned.
Staff Support
If scaring isn’t your thing but you still want to be involved, we have opportunities to engage with patrons and help with customer service, such as parking facilitators or ticket sales.
We accept minors as volunteers beginning as young as 10 years old, provided they can follow instructions and have no problems being in the dark woods for the 5 hours we will be operating. For our younger volunteers, a parent or guardian will be expected to stay with the child for the duration of their time with us.
Timing
Build and set design volunteers are encouraged to come each Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm in late July through mid-September (weather permitting).
Event volunteers are expected to be on site Friday and Saturday nights in October from 5:00 pm to approximately 10:30 pm.
While it would be nice to see you every weekend, your participation is not a commitment for the entire season; you may pick and choose your level of participation.
Event volunteers should wear dark, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes that they don't mind getting dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle, a flashlight, and anything else needed to spend several hours in the woods. (Throat drops aren’t a bad call for screaming scare actors!)
We provide dinner on Friday nights only, but we have a variety of snacks available to sustain hours of high-energy scaring fun during all days of operation.
